Electric, gas or portable?
Choose the right type of heat
Each type suits a different space. Here's how they compare.
Electric
No flame and no fuel to refill. Mount on a wall or ceiling to save floor space. Runs on 220–240V power, so plan on a licensed electrician. Heats 65 to 160 sq ft per heater.
Gas
Big heat for larger or more open spaces: 23,700 to 43,000 BTU, heating up to 215 sq ft. Natural gas or propane, installed by a licensed gas fitter.
Portable
Freestanding heat you can place where you need it. Roll the Tungsten Portable propane heater into place with no installation, or choose the Eclipse Portable electric with LED light (needs 220–240V power).

Frequently asked questions
What size heater do I need?
Multiply your space's length by its width, then compare that number with each heater's heat area in the sizing guide above. For example, a 12 × 12 ft patio is 144 sq ft: one heater rated for about 145 sq ft or more, or two smaller heaters for more even warmth. Wind, mounting height and outdoor temperature all affect comfort, so larger or breezy spaces usually need more than one heater.
Should I choose electric or gas?
Electric heaters are clean, quiet and mount neatly on walls or ceilings, and suit most covered patios, pergolas and porches. Gas heaters put out more heat per unit and suit larger, more open spaces. If you don't want any installation, the Tungsten Portable propane heater simply rolls into place.
Do electric heaters need an electrician?
Bromic electric heaters run on 220–240V power, so we recommend installation by a licensed electrician.
How high should a heater be mounted?
Many Bromic electric models list a minimum height of 96 inches from the ground for ceiling mounting and 72 inches for wall mounting. Clearances vary by model, so check the specifications on each product page before you install.
Which heater is best near the ocean or a pool?
The Platinum Marine series is built from 316 stainless steel for coastal settings and carries a 5-year warranty for land-based applications.

Yes. Bromic offers wireless dimmer controllers for its electric heaters and Affinity smart controls for Eclipse. See our Bromic accessories.
